TMSA Public Charter Schools will digitally complete the school year

CARY, N.C. (April 5, 2020) – TMSA Public Charter Schools Board (The Board) unanimously voted on finishing the school year via providing Remote Learning which has been started on March 16, 2020. “Last school day for our students is May 22nd and there is no reason to come back for just one more week after May 15th. Our admin team and staff have been working diligently to provide the best possible education to our students during these difficult times” said Carlton Cammon, the Board Chair.

Synchronous Distance Learning Policies that the Board approved at Saturday’s meeting include the followings;

-TMSA will be providing Synchronous Distance Learning every school calendar day from 9:00 am to 2:00 PM.
-Synchronous Distance Learning will be provided in accordance with the NC State Board of Education guidelines in terms of accessibility, communication, teaching essential curricular standards, assessment and the whole child aspect.
-TMSA will continue to evaluate student learning in the same format and focus on supporting student progress and communicating feedback to students and families rather than just assigning grades.
-NWEA MAP Spring Tests will not be administered in addition to EOC and EOGs. AP examinations will be administered as guided by College Board.
-All employees will be working from home and the employee contracts will continue as executed. Service contracts will be modified and/or ended according to the specified “force majeure” clause.

TMSA has been utilizing the ZOOM meeting platform for 15-30 minutes instruction sessions while using Google Classroom, Canvas and Class Dojo as learning management systems depending on the grade level. About 500 Chromebooks have been distributed to the families who did not have compatible devices and a technical support team has been created to help staff, students and parents to resolve internet and connection problems. TMSA will implement any other future guidelines to come from SBE and GA accordingly.
