Cary, NC - North Carolina Superintendent Catherine Truitt congratulated TMSA Triad and TMSA Triangle with a growth award and an electronic badge for exceeding their expected academic growth for the 2021-2022 school year.

"Academic growth represents an impressive amount of hard work by students and educators," wrote Ms. Truitt and State Board of Education Chairman Mr. Eric C. Davis in their letters to TMSA Triad Fatih Kandil and TMSA Triangle Principal M. John Kara. "Please share the appreciation and congratulations from the entire Department of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education with everyone at your school."

Triad Math and Science Academy achieved 93.4% academic growth and ranked as the third-highest school growth in Guilford County for 2021-2022. The average growth score for NC public schools is 76.7%, and for Guilford County schools, 71.9%.

Triangle Math and Science Academy ranked as one of the seven charter schools that received an "A" rating for their performance, with 91.1% academic growth. The school graduated 98.5% of its seniors as well.

"We are so proud of the growth and achievements of the last school year," said TMSA Public Charter Schools Superintendent Ben Karaduman. "These ratings are a testament to the determination and innovation of our teachers, the support of our parents, and the hard work of our students. I particularly want to applaud TMSA Triad Secondary and Elementary Teams for their historic progress," he added.

"Our students, staff, and parents are phenomenal," said Principal Kandil. "We identified exactly what challenges and learning gaps our students faced and acted accordingly. It was amazing to see how responsive our students are to all the resources and opportunities we offer." TMSA Triad serves some of the state's most vulnerable students in Greensboro.

"The last two years were very challenging, but we did not let that deter us from being an A school," said TMSA Triangle Principal Kara. "We will continue working hard to provide an exceptional educational experience." TMSA Triangle has been an "A" school since the DPI started to report school performance grades in 2013-2014. The school is regarded as one of the best charter schools in the state by many third-party platforms.

TMSA provided many opportunities for the students last year to close the pandemic's learning gap via Saturday School, after-school tutoring, additional online remedial classes, and comprehensive summer camps.

TMSA is North Carolina's growing network of high-performing nonprofit public charter schools focusing on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics). All TMSA schools are renowned for challenging students with high academic standards and providing a social-emotional and developmental support system. A Leader-in-Me district, TMSA also provides many selective programs for students ranging from Advanced Placement to dual enrollment, from TMSA Star League for Math and Science Olympiads to Project Lead The Way - an advanced program in biomedical science, engineering, and computer sciences.

TMSA serves more than 4,000 K-12 students in Apex, Cary, Charlotte, and Greensboro schools. More than 5,000 students are waitlisted for TMSA. It recently opened a state-of-the-art K-8 facility for its newest school - The Math and Science Academy of Apex (TMSA Apex) in its $65M campus. The new campus will also host TMSA Triangle's High School in Fall 2024. The 200,000-square-foot campus will feature a variety of advanced educational spaces, from classrooms, labs, and art studios to indoor and outdoor sports and academic areas, as well as a center geared towards community engagement.

The first TMSA school, Triad Math and Science Academy (TMSA Triad), was established in 2008 by a group of public charter school advocates who supported compelling, diverse, and well-funded public charter schools in North Carolina. As increasingly high demand exceeded the available seats, TMSA Triad was followed by Triangle Math and Science Academy (TMSA Triangle) in 2012. Queen City STEM School, founded in Charlotte in 2015, joined the TMSA family last year as The Math and Science Academy of Charlotte (TMSA Charlotte).

TMSA is a nonprofit charter school operator that only manages TMSA schools. It is neither a separate entity outside the TMSA organization nor entities like CMO (Charter Management Organization) or EMO (Education Management Organization) that provide managerial and back-office services to different charter schools for a management fee.
