Greensboro, NC – TMSA Public Charter Schools Superintendent Ben Karaduman has announced a new addition to Triad Math and Science Academy Elementary School Campus that will raise the bar higher for rigorous and inspiring STEM education in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The new addition is at 512 Industrial Avenue, known as MasTec Advanced Technologies, and 2.07 acres with a 10,700 square-foot brick office building. It is directly adjacent to the existing Triad Elementary Campus at 600 Industrial Avenue. The project will cost approximately $2 million and be funded through tax-exempt bonds.

The brick building will be renovated to host five high-tech classrooms, five offices, a new multi-purpose room with a stage. It will also host a SmartLab, which will provide a “turn-key” approach in helping students to develop problem-solving skills, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and design principles. There will be a 2,400 square-foot playground for children to run around for recess, and 91 parking spots with a charging station.

"This expansion will make us complete!” said Triad Math and Science Academy Elementary School Principal Diane Burke with great enthusiasm for the project. “This new facility will provide an advanced technological environment for our 5th graders and a SmartLab for all our K-5 students to enhance their 21st-century skills,” she added. “In our new all-purpose room, we will have concerts, performances, guest speakers as well as academic, social, and emotional opportunities for our Tigers and their families. I am so excited about the many possibilities that lie ahead!”

“We are so fortunate to have a facility available next door that meets the needs of our school,” said Superintendent Karaduman. “We have rolled up our sleeves to get the building ready for the 2021-2022 school year.”

Triad Elementary was established in 2008 and currently serves 600 students at the existing campus from kindergarten through 5th grade. The new building will substantially increase the number of students that receive TMSA’s high-quality education in Greensboro.

Triad Elementary is a part of TMSA Public Charter Schools, along with Cary’s Triangle Math and Science Academy and Charlotte’s Queen City STEM School. TMSA schools serve more than 3,000 students for the current school year.

TMSA Public Charter Schools has brought a dynamic of change to the quality of education in North Carolina. The schools provide a high-quality and enriching education that equips students with 21st-century skills in a safe, nurturing, and culturally-responsive learning environment. Triangle Math and Science Academy was recognized by Niche as one of the best high schools in North Carolina, coming in at 10th place on its 2020 list.

TMSA Public Charter Schools are currently remote due to the pandemic. TMSA schools were among the first in North Carolina to transition to remote instruction right after the COVID-19 outbreak in March 2020, and more than 90% of the parents expressed high rates of satisfaction with the quality of TMSA’s remote instruction during these hard times.

TMSA schools have been working hard for the last couple of months to prepare the buildings for a safe return. Based on their needs, students will return to campuses starting on March 15. In addition to implementing the CDC’s COVID-19 safety protocols, all TMSA schools have installed “REME Halo” in-duct air purification systems that tremendously improve indoor air quality to a level comparable with surgery rooms at hospitals. It is the only laboratory-proven system to reduce SARS-CoV-2 present in the environment by 99.9%.
