Dear TMSA and QCSS Communities,

We are closely monitoring the updates on schools reopening at the federal, state and local levels, and it is changing every day. Governor Cooper has not made his expected announcement regarding the matter on July 1st, 2020. As I mentioned in my previous message, charter schools have the option of using a more restrictive plan despite the governor’s decision.

North Carolina General Assembly has unanimously passed the bill SB374, which lets NC school districts seek State Board of Education permission to open school year using remote instruction. The bill moves to the Senate now.

We, TMSA Public Charter Schools (TMSA PCS), are in close cooperation with the NC Department of Public Instruction and state health agencies as we prepare ourselves for the next academic year.

We know you have many questions, and we have been silent on social media. I assure you that we are working diligently and cautiously to arrive our decisions and design our action plans. The best interest of every child will be at the center of our plans. Considering the disruptive and evolving nature of the situation, we will be doing our best to be flexible and ready to adapt to ensure the safety of every child.

TMSA PCS will reach its decision on reopening between July 15 and 20. As you all witnessed during the last quarter of the 2019-20 school year, TMSA PCS successfully managed to provide uninterrupted instruction to all of our students unlike many other school districts. For the next school year, we will be ready to open our schools under any possible scenarios that the TMSA and QCSS Boards decide. We, administrators, teachers, parents and students, will have three weeks to digest the decision and make ourselves ready by August 11, 2020.

We would also want to get your feedback upon this crucial matter. Please, expect an online survey from us tomorrow.

Thank you in advance for your patience and continued support.
