Triangle Math and Science Academy Students Shine at North Carolina Regional Science and Engineering Fair

CARY, N.C. (Feb. 4, 2020)–On Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, students from Triangle Math and Science Academy, Cary’s premier charter school focused on science, technology, engineering, and math, participated in the North Carolina Region 3A Science and Engineering Fair hosted by Hillside High School in Durham, N.C. Out of the 30 Triangle Math and Science Academy students who competed, 21 received awards in their category of participation. Students who placed first or second will now advance to the State Science and Engineering Fair held at North Carolina State University from March 27-28, 2020.

“We are proud of all our students who participated in the regional science and engineering fair. I have to give a huge thank you to our spectacular teachers and parent supporters who inspire our students to think outside the box, get creative, and push the limits,” said Triangle Math and Science Academy Principal Mithat Karabulut. “They foster an environment for our students to tackle problem solving and critical thinking skills head on across all subject areas.”

Special awards were given by organizations or agencies to projects that meet their specific guidelines. Aryan Kokkanti, Aditya Shankar, Eden Ramos, and Neeha Srinivasa were granted award certificates from North Carolina American Water Works. Additionally, Ian Eguiarte was nominated to compete in the Broadcom Masters–an award given only to the top 10% of junior projects.

The North Carolina Science and Engineering Fair provides elementary through high school students interested in science and technology the opportunity to pursue personal areas of interest and display research in a public, competitive manner. These projects empower students with confidence, presentation skills, communication and writing skills, creativity, and critical thinking.
